A new exercise regime which allows teachers and parents to monitor pupils activities throughout the school day is being rolled out across the country in a bid to eradicate childhood obesity.

Launched on Tuesday, the Health Active Schools Systems (HASS) – devised by the childrens activity provider Fit For Sport – will provide schools with reports charting the activity of individual children on a daily basis.

.

It comes as a report published last week by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health revealed that 40 percent of children in the countrys most deprived areas were diagnosed as overweight or obese in 2016 – compared to just 27 percent in more affluent areas.

.

In response, the Governments new Childhood Obesity Strategy calls on primary schools to provide 30 minutes of physical activity on a daily basis, with the Department for Education promising to double the amount of funding for PE and sport in schools by the end of the year.

.

To ensure schools are adhering to the new guidelines, HASS will monitor the overall progress of pupils whilst also checking how effective schools are at investing and implementing new sports initiatives with additional funding.

Open to all primary schools across the country through their sports premium funding, HASS will provide schools with a breakdown of physical activity levels for each child, class, year group in order for teachers to be able to see which areas are in need of improvement.

It will also monitor pupils ability in swimming lessons, while providing online plans and resources for schools without access to a full time PE teacher.
